“Once upon a time in Gyöngyöspata”

Just what does the rest of Europe think about Hungary and Hungarians? “Now it’s Gyongyos pata in 15 years time the whole fucking country will be like it….”  From inside and outside the country everyone is exploiting Gyongyospata.  Social commentators travel from Switzerland, an advertising executive turns it into a marketing dream and a young man finds himself translating a language he doesn’t understand, for a woman he doesn’t like in a village he doesn’t know.  So what is the real story behind Gyongyospata?  Using verbatim statements, photographs and videos, Scallabouche create an outsiders perspective, set in a dark and magical landscape it depicts a Hungary that is both familiar and strange, absurd and surreal, exploring the personal and the political.

Ten at the Szkéné Theatre

An evening with the nine most exciting impro challenges of Scallabouche's ten-year history. Nine. Because esoterically nine is a special number and during our shows we also try to achieve greatness. As with all impro shows, the audience will start, shape, inspire and ultimately end it. It will be interactive with a chance for you to give ideas, objects, clothes even get on stage yourselves if you want to. With our unique improvisational style we will demolish the barriers between the stage and audience. We try to balance on the border of reality and fantasy, tragedy and comedy. Finally to complete the performance, together with the audience we will find the missing 10th element of the evening.

Have you ever learned to improvise but you would like to improve your skills in a controlled environment? Would you like to dive in a bit and learn a bit more on impro and its techniques? Do you have some ideas, which you´d like to show to your audience but you still have to overcome the fear of acting before an audience? Drop in Impro is the right thing for you. You can find us at SzkénéTheatre and whenever you want for a price of a ticket you can develop your improvisational skills and find out new stories or characters.

October 4^th Szkéné Theatre, Gerloczy u 4.7 –9pm will be the first Drop In Impro session of the season.  As usual this weekly event is open to anyone who wants to drop in and try his or her hand at improvising.  What’s new is that every session will be on Tuesdays and we will now have a new format for drop in impro. Each session will end with a long form situation where we can really have the chance just like in jazz to build a free form piece.  We can jump in and out using the impro skills with the main aim of keeping the situation alive and looking for the opportunity for characters to enter and change the situation.

We will also have bi-monthly performances, alternating between short form shows with a chance to show off our impro skills and devised shows.
